Basket strainers use a removable cylindrical basket (screen) inside a pressure vessel body, providing the largest dirt-holding capacity of any inline strainer type. The basket is easily removed for cleaning or replacement through a quick-opening cover.
AQ Process Systems sources and exports simplex basket strainers (single basket, system must be shut down for cleaning) and duplex basket strainers (twin baskets with diverter valve, allows basket switching without interrupting flow). Sizes from 1" to 48" in cast, forged, and fabricated construction.
Basket strainers are the preferred choice for large flow rates, high debris loads, and applications where extended intervals between cleaning are required. Duplex strainers are essential for continuous-flow systems that cannot be interrupted for maintenance.

A simplex strainer has one basket, the system must be isolated or shut down to clean or replace the basket. A duplex strainer has two baskets in parallel with a diverter valve, flow is directed through one basket while the other is cleaned, providing uninterrupted operation. Duplex strainers are essential for continuous-flow systems.
Basket screens are available in perforated plate (holes from 0.5mm to 12mm+) or wire mesh (20 to 400 mesh). For coarse protection (pumps, heat exchangers): 3-6mm perforated plate. For medium filtration (fuel, cooling water): 40-80 mesh. For fine filtration (instruments, spray nozzles): 100-325 mesh. We recommend the correct mesh based on your application.
A handle-operated diverter valve (usually a plug valve or ball valve mechanism) redirects flow from one basket to the other. During switching, both baskets briefly share the flow to prevent pressure shock. The dirty basket can then be opened and cleaned while flow continues through the clean basket. Automatic models switch based on differential pressure.
Yes. Standard basket strainers handle temperatures up to 400°C+ depending on body material, gasket, and basket material selection. For steam service, CS or SS bodies with metallic gaskets and SS baskets are used. For very high temperatures, special gasket materials (spiral wound, kammprofile) and heat-resistant basket materials are specified.
Yes. Quick-opening covers allow faster basket access, designs include hinged covers with swing bolts, davit-arm covers that swing aside, and toggle-clamp covers. These are preferred for applications requiring frequent basket cleaning, reducing maintenance time from 30+ minutes (conventional bolted cover) to 5-10 minutes.
