Knife Gate Valves

Knife gate valves for slurry, tailings, bulk solids, and heavy duty isolation. Wafer, lugged, bidirectional, and through-going designs with abrasion resistant construction and replaceable seats, engineered for mining, mineral processing, and demanding industrial service.

Overview

Knife gate valves use a sharp edged gate that cuts through thick, fibrous, and abrasive media to provide reliable isolation where conventional gate valves would clog or wear rapidly. They are the essential valve for mining slurry, tailings, mineral processing, pulp and paper stock, wastewater, and bulk solids handling.

AQ Process Systems sources and exports the full range of knife gate valves from certified Indian manufacturers with proven mining and mineral processing experience. Our range covers sizes from 2 inch to 60 inch in wafer, lugged, and through-going body styles, with unidirectional and bidirectional sealing, in cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex, with resilient, metal, and abrasion resistant hard faced seats.

For heavy slurry duty we supply valves with replaceable elastomer sleeves, rubber lined bodies, hard faced gates, and purge ports, along with pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, and manual bevel gear actuation. This is a core product for the African and Middle Eastern mining, copper, gold, and mineral sectors we serve, at 25 to 40 percent below Western pricing.

Full Slurry & Isolation Range
ProductSpecificationDescription
Standard Duty
Unidirectional Wafer2" to 24" | Cast/Ductile Iron | Resilient SeatThe workhorse knife gate. Wafer body clamped between flanges, resilient seat for bubble tight shutoff in one direction. For general isolation, water, and light slurry.
Lugged Body2" to 24" | CS/SS | Resilient or Metal SeatTapped lugs allow dead end service and one side removal without draining. For end of line and maintenance critical isolation.
Heavy Slurry Duty
Bidirectional Slurry2" to 48" | Ductile/CS | Replaceable SleevesBidirectional sealing with replaceable elastomer sleeves that isolate the gate from the media. For abrasive mining slurry, tailings, and mineral concentrate.
Rubber Lined / Full Bore3" to 60" | Fully Lined Body | Round PortFully rubber lined body with unobstructed round port for the most abrasive slurries and thick media. Minimises turbulence and wear in tailings and heavy concentrate lines.
Through-Going (Round Port)2" to 40" | Full Round BoreFull round bore matching pipe ID for slurry, pneumatic conveying, and bulk solids where no cavity or restriction can be tolerated.
Special
High Pressure / Perimeter Seated2" to 24" | Class 150-300 | Metal or PU SeatPerimeter seated designs for higher pressure isolation with metal or polyurethane seats for erosive and higher differential service.
Actuated PackagesPneumatic / Hydraulic / ElectricComplete actuated knife gate packages sized for slurry breakaway torque, with limit switches, solenoids, and positioners for automated plant control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a knife gate valve used for?
Knife gate valves are used to isolate thick, abrasive, fibrous, or slurry media that would clog or wear conventional gate valves. The sharp gate cuts through the media for reliable shutoff. Typical uses include mining slurry, tailings, mineral concentrate, pulp and paper stock, wastewater, sludge, and bulk solids.
What is the difference between unidirectional and bidirectional knife gate valves?
Unidirectional valves seal in one flow direction against a resilient seat and are used for general isolation. Bidirectional valves seal in both directions, typically using replaceable elastomer sleeves that also isolate the gate from abrasive media, making them the preferred choice for heavy slurry service.
Can knife gate valves handle abrasive mining slurry?
Yes. For abrasive slurry we supply valves with replaceable elastomer sleeves, fully rubber lined bodies, hard faced gates, and round full port designs that minimise turbulence and wear. These are engineered specifically for copper, gold, mineral concentrate, and tailings service.
What sizes and materials are available?
We supply knife gate valves from 2 inch to 60 inch in cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex, with resilient, metal, polyurethane, and hard faced seats. Wafer, lugged, and through-going round port body styles are available.
Do you supply actuated knife gate valves?
Yes. All knife gate valves can be supplied with pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, or manual bevel gear actuation. Actuators are sized for slurry breakaway and seating torque with appropriate safety factors, and can include limit switches, solenoids, and positioners for automated control.
