Overview

Superheater sections operate at the highest metal temperatures in any boiler, making their components susceptible to creep, oxidation, and thermal fatigue. Timely replacement of degraded tubes, headers, and support structures is critical for safe, efficient boiler operation and preventing costly unplanned outages.

AQ Process Systems sources and exports superheater tubes in all standard alloy grades, from T11 and T22 for moderate temperatures to T91, TP304H, and TP347H for the highest-temperature stages. We also supply replacement headers, attemperator (desuperheater) internals, tube hangers, and protective shields.

All superheater tube materials are supplied with full Mill Test Certificates per EN 10204 3.1, with third-party inspection available upon request for critical applications.

Why do superheater tubes fail and need replacement?

Superheater tubes fail primarily due to long-term creep (metal deformation at high temperature over time), steam-side oxide scale buildup (which insulates the tube and raises metal temperature), fireside corrosion (from coal ash, vanadium, or sulphur compounds), and erosion (from soot blower impingement or high-velocity gas flow). Regular inspection and timely tube replacement prevent catastrophic failures.

What tube materials do you supply for superheaters?

We supply SA 213 T11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo), T22 (2.25Cr-1Mo), T91 (9Cr-1Mo-V), TP304H, TP347H, and TP310 stainless steel. The correct grade depends on the operating temperature and pressure of the specific superheater stage. All tubes supplied seamless with Mill Test Certificates per EN 10204 3.1.

Do you supply attemperator/desuperheater replacement parts?

Yes. We supply complete spray attemperator probe assemblies, replacement spray nozzles, spray water control valves with actuators and positioners, and thermal liners. Compatible with interstage and final attemperators in all major boiler designs.

Can you supply pre-bent superheater tube coils?

Yes. We can supply tubes pre-bent to OEM coil geometry, pendant, platen, or horizontal configurations. Tubes are bent cold or hot depending on the material grade and bend radius, then dimensionally inspected to match original equipment specifications.

What is the typical lifespan of superheater tubes?

Superheater tube life varies widely based on steam temperature, tube material, flue gas conditions, and maintenance practices. In power plant service, primary superheater tubes may last 15-25+ years, while final superheater tubes operating near the creep limit may need replacement after 8-15 years. Regular NDE (non-destructive examination) inspection determines remaining life.
